Golden Globes has been suffering from an acute boycott from stars after they were involved in a scandal they could have avoided. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association was accused of discrimination and poor work ethics. This generated massive criticism and controversy around the award, causing many TV stars and entertainers to boycott many past editions.
Could things get worse for the Golden Globes Award? Even after trying to diversify the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, many stars have decided to continue boycotting the award show.
Zendaya
Zendaya is one of the biggest entertainment industry stars, and she also has a huge fan base. She has more than 150 million followers on Instagram but chose not to attend the Golden Globes Award show on 11th January.
Do you know what her excuse was? She was working. After playing the role of Rue Bennett in Euphoria, Zendaya won Best Actress in a Television Series.
However, she took to social media to thank her fans for their support and the award organizers for creating such an award. She also congratulated those nominated in the same category as her, saying that it was an honor to be in the same category. People are yet to find out why she snubbed the award show, maybe she will try to attend the next edition of the award.
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift was nowhere to be found during the 80th edition of the Golden Globes Award show 2023. Famed to be one of the greatest songwriters America had ever produced, Taylor Swift didn't win any awards but was still expected to be at the event.
One of her songs, known as Carolina, was among the songs that were nominated for the Best Original Song award, but she didn't win in that category. The song named Carolina was used in another movie called Where the Crawdads Sing.
Her reasons for not attending the prestigious Golden Globes Award show are not yet known to the public. However, there are some speculations about what made her snub the award show despite being invited by the organizers.
Some guesses many have are that she might have been preparing for her upcoming tour, the Eras tour, which will hold later in the year. Also, since she didn't win in any of the categories she was nominated in, it wasn't much of an obligation to attend the award show.
Brendan Fraser
Brendan Fraser was one of the strong critics of the Golden Globes Award show since its involvement in the diversity scandal. He was one of the people whose strong voice made the Hollywood Foreign Press Association make some reforms, such as adding more colored journalists to their organization.
The actor revealed during a cover story with GQ that he would not be attending any event or ceremony hosted by the Golden Globes until he sees a fundamental reform in the association. According to him, his history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is pretty bad, and he won't be coerced into attending any of their events.
Amanda Seyfried
Amanda Seyfried was among the A-list entertainers who weren't present during the 80th edition of the Golden Globes Award. Although her reason for not attending the prestigious award was more understandable than others who consciously snubbed the award. The talented actress won the Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Television Film, an award which wasn't present to take home.
This is the first time Amanda Seyfried is winning an award in the Golden Globes Award show, which surprised many after she didn't attend. It was reported that she wasn't present at the award show because she was recording a new film musical.
Kevin Costner
Like Amanda Seyfried, the reason Kevin Costner missed the award show was unintended. A terrible weather stopped the well-known actor from gracing the prestigious award show.
Kevin Costner won Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama but wasn't there at the award show to take it home because he was stranded at home due to mudslides. In a video on Instagram, the actor apologized for not attending the award. He also mentioned that unexpected weather made him follow the event from home. In the closing part of the video, he also thanked those who organized the event and his supporters.
