The extravagant occasion serves as a charity fundraiser for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is the only part of the institution not supported by the government and the celebration of the year's most recent fashion-related show. Don't assume anyone can purchase a ticket simply because it is a charity event; it is also one of the hottest events in the fashion industry, which makes it an excuse for celebrities to dress in beautifully-designed outfits and socialize with one another. Since 1995, Vogue editor Anna Wintour and her team have rigorously supervised the guest list, with only about 600 persons making the least annually.
8 Celebrities Banned From The Met Gala
Many celebrities are rumored to have been banned from the Met Gala due to comments they have made about the event, even though Anna Wintour has only publicly banned one person from the event for an indefinite period. Others have merely stated that they do not intend to attend. Here is a list of celebrities you may not see at the Met Gala 2023.
1. Donald Trump
The former president was reportedly banned from the Met Gala after he made disparaging comments about the event and its attendees. Wintour was asked if there was any person who she would never invite to the event; she replied without missing a beat, "Donald Trump."
2. Rachel Zoe
There were rumors about why celebrity stylist, Rachel Zoe, is nixed from the Met Gala guest list after an interview with the New York Times in 2007. In the interview, Rachel Zoe shared her opinion about Anna Wintour and her influence. "Anna Wintour is one of my heroes, but they say that I'm more influential. As great as it is, Vogue won't change a designer's business. But if an unknown brand is worn by a certain person in a tabloid, it will be the biggest designer within a week." Although, she did return in 2012 and has been styling others for the carpet too.
3. Tim Gunn
While some others may be speculated, Tim Gunn was certainly banned from the Met Gala in 2016. The fashion TV personality appeared on E! 's 'Fashion Police' where he talked about being disinvited from the custom gala for presumably insulting Anna Wintour.
4. Gwyneth Paltrow
It "seems like it's the best thing in the world, you always think, 'Oh my god, it's gonna be so glamorous and amazing,' and you're going to see all these people, but then you get there and it's so hot and it's so crowded and everyone's pushing you," Paltrow said in 2013 on the Australian radio program Kyle and Jackie O. We're all too old, in my opinion, to dress like punks. But Gwyneth returned to the Met Gala in 2012.
5. Demi Lovato
Lovato revealed their experience at the Met Gala in a 2018 interview and that they haven't attended events since then. "I had a terrible experience," Lovato told Billboard at the time. "This one celebrity was a complete bitch and was miserable to be around. It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink." At the time, Lovato was actively sober. Lovato also explained that she went straight from the Met Gala to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. "I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on, millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting. And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala, fake and sucking the fashion industry's dick".

6. Amy Schumer
Explains how she felt about the events in a 2016 interview. She might have no plans on attending again. "It's people doing an impression of having a conversation," she told Howard Stern. "I don't like the farce… we're dressed up like a bunch of f--king assholes. I don't like it. I have no interest in fashion… I don't care."
7. Tina Fey
Attended the event in 2010 and didn't return. She said: "If you had a million arms and all the people you would punch in the whole world, they're all there," she told David Letterman in 2015. "It is so unbelievable. I'll never go again. But you go, and it's this beautiful space and it's just every jerk from every walk of life is there wearing, like, some stupid thing."
8. Jameela Jamil
The actress has criticized them for honoring the late Karl Lagerfeld, who was a talented man but also engaged in some questionable behavior for which he never expressed regret. Ever since the theme of this year's event was made public, Jameela publicly stated her disapproval, and given Wintour's track record, it is safe to assume that the actress won't be added to the invite list.
