Rihanna has released new music dedicated to the upcoming Black Panther movie after almost six years of not releasing a song.
The superstar spent the last six years in her beauty and apparel business; she also became a parent with her colleague Asap Rocky. While most fans thought the Barbadian singer would continue to live in the beauty and apparel business, she has released a new song.
The new song was produced for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. Rihanna co-wrote the new single with Nigerian singer Tems, the movie director, and Swedish composer Ludwig Goransson. Apparently, the song was created to tribute to the late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman.
Those who missed hearing from the Barbadian singer said that the bad gal still had music within. Most people were attracted to her voice which is still as silky as it was before she left the music scene for a while.
The song comes with a simple chorus, making it possible for all to flow with it. "Lift me up, hold me down, keep me close, safe and sound."
The song is about 3 minutes long, and fans were teased about what to expect when the music star dropped a clip of her humming to the song's opening notes.
The song's co-writer is Tems, a Nigerian singer who says she has been a fan of the singer since she came into the music industry. According to her, Rihanna's voice "has been an inspiration," which made her embrace the collaboration. She said that she co-wrote the song so she could feel a "warm embrace" from all the people she lost.
" I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them," Tems said in an interview.
The soundtrack for the Black Panther movie is expected to be released on November 4th, and then the movie is slated to be released on November 11th.
More Music Releases Ahead
It seems like the latest release by Rihanna is in preparation for bigger musical stages and album releases.
The Barbadian singer is expected to be on a bigger stage as she is headlining the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show in February. The singer will perform under the record label of her colleague Jay-z, the founder of Roc Nation Label.
Jay-z has partnered with the NFL for his record label to perform at the event. He has also praised the mother of one as a "generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has surpassed expectations at every turn."
Apart from the Super Bowl Halftime Show that will be coming up, fans are already expecting Rihanna's new album called #R9 to be released. In an interview with Vogue in May 2022, the singer revealed that she would be releasing her new album.
From what she said, the album is "completely different from the way I had wanted to put it out before."
"I think this way suits me better, a lot better. It's authentic, it will be fun for me, and it takes a lot of the pressure off."
While fans are still vibing to the new song released by the Barbadian star, they could have more coming their way when Rihanna's new album is released.
