There's a sensation around many social media platforms after someone discovers a hack that could make an older model of iPhone perform better by changing the location. According to the discovery, it stemmed from a lawsuit against Apple in France in 2020.
According to a report from GizChina in 2020, France competition Watchdog fined Apple company of around £25 million for deliberately slowing down older models of iPhone so that users would buy the new models. Apple didn't deny the allegations against them. However, they stated the reason they were engaging in such behavior.
In Apple's press statement, they begged their customers not to lose their trust in their products and that there was a reason for slowing down old model phones.
"At Apple, our customers' trust means everything to us. We will never stop working to earn and maintain it. We are able to do the work we love only because of your faith and support - and we will never forget that or take it for granted," Apple said.
Apparently, iPhone speed decreased whenever Apple released a new model because they were trying to make updates compatible with their phone batteries." Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, [when they] have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components," the company added.
So whenever users download new upgrades to their old model mobile, the iPhone speed reduces since the battery is trying to protect itself. However, Apple has clarified this does not apply to any model of iPhone from iPhone 8 and above.
The trick has spread around forums such as Reddit and other social media platforms such as Twitter. There are quite a huge number of people still using the lower versions of the iPhone, and even those using iPhone 8 and above are trying the "iPhone France location" trick to see if it would increase their iPhone speed.
How To Change Location On iPhone
The new trick of changing the locations of older models of iPhones to France might work pretty well. But as Apple stated, it might cause battery issues and unexpected shutdowns.
In newer iPhones, this is quite different, as Apple has battery health that lets you know when to replace your battery. "Additionally, users can see if the performance management feature that dynamically manages maximum performance to prevent unexpected shutdowns is on and can choose to turn it off," Apple revealed.
If you are using an older model of iPhone, you need to open your iPhone settings and input your password if required.
Next, tap on" media and purchases" and then select the view account. At this stage, you should select a view account and then change the location of your iPhone to France. According to many social media comments, the new trick has worked for them and has increased the speed of their older iPhones.
If you have a new model of iPhone (from iPhone 8 and above), it might be pointless doing this trick as Apple said the rule does not apply to these versions of iPhones.
