OpenAI recently announced its popular AI solution, ChatGPT. According to the details of this announcement, they will be adding a speech feature to this AI solution.
The implication is that you can now perfectly speak to ChatGPT as though you are speaking to a human. But you will say Google Assistant and Siri already have this type of technology. After all, you can tell Siri to call this contact, and it will reply, asking for the contact's name. This is where ChatGPT is trying to change the game.
As said above, the interaction between ChatGPT and humans is set to become heartfelt. Not only can you speak to this AI solution, but you can also show it images of what you are talking about, and it will respond perfectly.
"Voice and image give you more ways to use ChatGPT in your life. Snap a picture of a landmark while traveling and have a live conversation about what’s interesting about it. When you’re home, snap pictures of your fridge and pantry to figure out what’s for dinner (and ask follow up questions for a step by step recipe). After dinner, help your child with a math problem by taking a photo, circling the problem set, and having it share hints with both of you," OpenAI said in the announcement.
The good thing about this new development is that it is not limited to a particular device platform. This is available to both Android and iOS users.
"We’re rolling out voice and images in ChatGPT to Plus and Enterprise users over the next two weeks. Voice is coming on iOS and Android (opt-in in your settings) and images will be available on all platforms," OpenAI added.
How to Use The New Feature
Now that you have heard about the new feature from OpenAI, you may be wondering how to use it.
To get started, go to your Settings and select the option for New Features. From there, you can choose to opt-in for voice conversations.
If you prefer, you can also select from five different voices that the technology can use when communicating with you by tapping on the headphone icon.
"The new voice capability is powered by a new text-to-speech model, capable of generating human-like audio from just text and a few seconds of sample speech. We collaborated with professional voice actors to create each of the voices. We also use Whisper, our open-source speech recognition system, to transcribe your spoken words into text,". OpenAI added.
