Japan, a country widely known for its technological advancements and innovation drives, has been criticized for its seeming lax cyber security defences.

It seems evident that the country has fallen behind in addressing the increasing cyber threats, leaving its infrastructure vulnerable to various forms of online attacks.

According to The Diplomat, Japan's efforts in cyber government are progressing slowly, lagging behind other major countries.

“Japan’s cyber defense has been ridiculed by the world because we haven’t done anything,” Kanehara Nobukatsu, a former assistant chief Cabinet secretary and deputy director general of the National Security Secretariat under the second Abe Shinzo administration in the 2010s, said on a BS Fuji television program on May 23.

Reports in the Washington Post on August 7 say that Chinese military hackers infiltrated a system that stored Japan's defense secrets, and this warranted a warning from the US to Japan to fix its systems.

The incessant rate of attacks and the level of damage caused have forced Japan to consider the gravity of its negligence. Steps have been taken to forestall it.

National Cybersecurity Strategy: In 2018, the government released its first National Cybersecurity Strategy, which outlined a plan to strengthen its national defenses. The strategy proposed public-private collaboration, information sharing, and investment in a major Japanese cybersecurity strategy.

Cybersecurity Agency: Japan also took steps to create a Cybersecurity and Information Security Agency (CISA) in 2018, which is aimed at consolidating cybersecurity efforts and improving coordination between government agencies.

Despite the ongoing efforts, there are still significant challenges to be addressed on the path to success.

It's evident that Japan needs to tackle bureaucratic obstacles and promote a culture of cybersecurity awareness across all sectors of society in order to implement a comprehensive national strategy.

Moreover, Japan is grappling with a shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals, which hampers its ability to handle cyber threats effectively.

Conclusion

Japan has become a warning sign worldwide for countries lacking in cyber security. It points out that no nation is immune to cyber attacks, and no nation should downplay the importance of cyber security improvements.

Japan, on its path, has taken constructive measures to address Japan's cybersecurity strategy by prioritizing it and seeking out collaborative mobs to tackle attacks.

Japan has also strengthened its digital defenses to create a more toughened and resilient digital ecosystem.
