Celebrity couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck got married at the weekend in Las Vegas, 18 years after their first romance failed.
According to a marriage license they submitted in Clark County, Nevada, the pair wed on Saturday. Affleck, Benjamin Geza and Lopez, Jennifer are listed as the wedding's participants, while Lopez's "new name" is given as Affleck, Jennifer.
The pair first met on the set of the widely panned movie Gigli in 2002. They caused a media sensation by dating, delaying their 2003 wedding, and then declaring their breakup in early 2004.
When pictures of the pair together again started to circulate online last year, "Bennifer"—the couple's public moniker from their last relationship—set the internet on fire. In April, they made their engagement public.
In her newsletter, On The JLo, Lopez shared a video of herself acting teary and adoring a green ring. She affirmed that the pair had traveled to Las Vegas on Saturday and had waited in line "with four other couples" to obtain a license. The ring was described by US media as an emerald-cut light green diamond.
They "just made it to the modest white wedding chapel by midnight," according to Lopez, but it was kind enough to stay open after it had closed so they could "shoot pictures in a pink Cadillac convertible, presumably formerly used by the king himself."
So, she said, "we read our own vows in the little chapel and handed one another the rings we'll wear for the rest of our lives, along with the best witnesses you could possibly imagine, a dress from an old movie and a blazer from Ben's closet."
This is Lopez's fourth marriage and Affleck's second. In a February interview with People, Lopez talked about her revived romance with Affleck.
We received a second opportunity, which is a lovely love tale, she remarked.
Prior to her current marriage, Lopez was previously wed to musician Marc Anthony, dancer Cris Judd, and actor Ojani Noa, with whom she has twins Max and Emme, age 14.
Violet, 16, Seraphina, 13, and Samuel, 10, are the children of Affleck and star Jennifer Garner.
Since getting back together, the pair has reportedly been "apparently inseparable," house-hunting together and occasionally bringing their children along.
According to TMZ, Lopez's car was spotted last month outside a sizable Beverly Hills estate that had a number of moving trucks outside of it, as well as at both of their existing residences.
Of the wedding, TMZ put it this way: “They did it like a couple of kids looking to elope, saying ‘I do’ out in the desert.”
It then took another 17 years -- with children and marriages -- before Lopez and Affleck found their way back to one another.
Affleck proposed to Lopez again in April while she was soaking in a bubble bath.
"I was taken totally off guard and just looked in his eyes smiling and crying at the same time trying hard to get my head around the fact that after 20 years this was happening all over again, I was quite literally speechless and he said, 'is that a yes?' I said YES of course that's a YES," she wrote in her newsletter.
