Meta layoffs in 2023 continue as the company, in an internal memo, has revealed their intention to reduce the size of their employees. This new layoff is quite different from those Meta has been announcing in the past.
This recent layoff reportedly will affect even the top employees. After failing woefully with their virtual reality escapades, Meta has been drawn to reality as their finances have suffered a huge loss. With a big financial gap, Meta is cutting down costs by reducing their employee headcount. Even the top employees who were involved in the development of the VR headsets are set to be laid off from the company.
In an internal memo obtained by Washington Post, Meta’s head of human resources, Lori Goler, said the company would undergo a new round of layoff that will affect as many as 10,000 employees. As Meta lays off employees, it becomes an increasing concern as the tech sector undergoes massive purging. With their employees massively cut by never-ending layoffs, Meta will also announce the new company structure. During the wave of layoffs, some departments were entirely wiped out.
Teams working in different divisions of Meta company would be severely affected by the layoffs. According to the company, high-profile teams working on Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and the virtual-reality division Reality Labs will be affected by the new rounds of layoffs. Golfer added that Meta employees should brace up as the new rounds of layoffs would be massive. It will split up the whole structure of the company. In addition, employees should also know that they might be transferred to another department because of the layoffs. Some departments may also be merged to become one.
"This will be a difficult time as we say goodbye to friends and colleagues who have contributed so much to Meta. It will take time for everyone — both those leaving and those staying — to process tomorrow’s news, and I know teams will show up for each other with compassion, support and care," Goler wrote in the internal memo.
For workers that are in North America, the process would be quicker than those who are residing outside the continent. Despite this, the process would remain similar. Jobs are going to be cut, and Meta does not have any intention of hiring new workers anytime soon.
Meta Faces Severe Threats
The Meta layoffs 2023 aren't the only negative news about the company. After 2021 and early 2022, the company has been facing severe threats that may bankrupt the company. The tech giant has invested heavily in a lot of projects that didn't work out.
The most notable is their virtual reality project which is yet to get worldwide recognition. The money invested in the project resulted in losses significantly affecting the tech company.
Since the virtual reality project didn't go as expected, Meta has made a U-turn. The company's CEO has already said his priority is to make the tech firm leaner and more efficient. This is the major reason the company has been going through many series of restructures and layoffs.
