"The Queen," Again!
Instagram sensation and popular singer Selena Gomez becomes the fourth most-followed celebrity and the most-followed female on Instagram. According to a social media tracking website, Social Blade, Gomez is now the most influential personality on the app after soccer superstars Lionel Messi and Ronaldo, who are currently the app's top two.
Fans are excited she has her place as the most-followed celebrity on Instagram since she took a break from social media in 2019.
Still, Gomez isn't taking that too seriously, especially now that fans have paired her with Kylie Jenner as a rival on Instagram.
"I have the best friends and the best fans in the whole world and I just couldn't be happier, And yeah, I'm gonna be taking a second from social media 'cause this is a little silly and I'm 30 and too old for this," she said.
Selena's account overtook Kylie(380 million) on Wednesday, February 22, with a whooping addition of 2 million in less than 24 hours, making her the new "Queen of Instagram".
Tweeps have also taken to Twitter to celebrate this new feat on her behalf.
Here are some of the lovely comments we found.
“The real queen of Instagram is back”
“She’s back on her throne. Selena Queen of Instagram."
“Selena Gomez is once again the most followed woman on Instagram. Queen is back!”
“And everything is once again right in the world. The queen is back on her deserved throne!”
"I Am Just Gonna Take A Break From Everything", Selena Announces To Fans
Leaving social media again?
In a TikTok live clip shared by some of her fans, Gomez announces her decision to retake a break from social media despite the recent feat on Instagram. She assured fans she'll be back soon and only needs a little time off.
"I love you guys so much and I will see you guys sooner than later. I just have to take a break from everything," she explained.
This is not the first time Selena is prioritizing her mental health first and taking a well-deserved break from social media so this wouldn't come off as a surprise to long-time fans. The "Only Murders In the Building" star had taken a break in 2014 after she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and lupus.
Although our accounts are still active, the singer hasn't made a post since the announcement on Thursday after the follower gain.
Selena Opens Up On Her Social Media Interactions
The former Disney star revealed in a recent article by Vanity Fair how tough it used to be being active on Social Media.
"I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety…I couldn't do it anymore. It was a waste of my time," she admitted.
She also explained how she had to outsource her account to her assistant because of the mean comments she sometimes found there.
"People can call me ugly or stupid and I'm like, Whatever. But these people get detailed. They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean".
She describes how relieving it has been since she decided to let someone else handle her account and that TikTok is the only app she has on her phone because she thinks it's " less hostile."
"There are wonderful things about social media—connecting with fans, seeing how happy and excited they are and their stories. But usually, that's filtered through [for me now]. I created a system. Everything I do I send to my assistant who posts them," she explained.
The 30-year-old singer seems to be doing well with her love life and a new relationship with Drew Taggart. She's also been very vocal about her physical and mental health journey in her latest documentary, "Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me." It's a healthy place to be in, and we couldn't be happier.
