Travel does not have to be costly. I'm here to inform you that you can travel to amazing places on a budget. Southeast Asia is brimming with beautiful islands, historic towns, and breathtaking natural wonders just waiting to be found.

1. Hoi An, Vietnam

Beautiful beaches, intriguing history, bright lanterns, and endless rice terraces abound in this quaint Vietnamese town. You can have a private room in a beautiful guesthouse and a free bicycle to explore the city for as little as $10-$15.

Don't be afraid to go shopping for clothes and shoes while you're in Hoi An! This town is known around the world for its low-cost custom-made garments. A pair of leather shoes will set you back roughly $30, while a tailor-made suit for males would set you back around $150.

If you're a foodie, Vietnamese cuisine is a must-try. A typical local dish will cost between $3 and $5. Also, if you're in Vietnam, you must sample the legendary Banh Mi. You'll be grateful to me later. I advocate a daily budget of roughly $40 as a starting point (for 2 people). This is one of the most affordable destinations in Asia!

2. Ninh Binh, Vietnam

Ninh Binh is another interesting and economical destination in Vietnam. Ninh Binh appears like a scene from Avatar, with its lofty limestone mountains, beautiful temples, and breathtaking views.

A private room at a guesthouse will set you back only $15, while a one-day motorcycle rental would set you back $6. If you don't feel comfortable riding a motorcycle, you can hire a bicycle for $3.

Restaurants serving both local and international cuisine abound in Ninh Binh. If you want to save money, eat the local cuisine. Expect to pay between $3 and $5 for a dinner. For two people, the required daily budget is roughly $50.

3. Philippines: Siquijor

Siquijor's charm stems from the fact that few people are aware of this little-known gem. Siquijor is ideal for snorkeling, discovering waterfalls, and relaxing on some of the Philippines' nicest beaches because there are few tourists on the island.

A night at a guesthouse will set you back roughly $20, while dinner in a local restaurant would set you back between $5 and $7. You'll need to rent a motorbike for $5 to navigate around the island. For two people, a daily budget of $50 should be more than adequate.

4. Myanmar's capital, Yangon

One aspect of this country that astonished me was how friendly and generous the people are. Myanmar is not only a budget-friendly vacation, but it is also one of Southeast Asia's most gorgeous countries.

Myanmar should be on your vacation list because it has some of the most beautiful temples and natural scenery. Myanmar's capital, Yangon, is a city steeped in history and culture.

You must see the famed Shwedagon Pagoda and ride the Yangon Circular Train while in Yangon. I also recommend planning a trip to Hpa An from Yangon if you want to see some of Myanmar's rural districts. You will not be dissatisfied.

A night in a guesthouse will set you back as low as $8, while dinner in the city will set you back roughly $3. Yangon is an excellent choice for individuals seeking a low-cost vacation, with an average daily expenditure of about $35 (for two persons). Myanmar is one of Southeast Asia's most affordable destinations, and it's the ideal place to visit in 2022.

5. Yogyakarta, Indonesia

The first thing that springs to mind when you think of Indonesia is Bali. Outside of Bali, though, there are many more gorgeous places to visit. I got the opportunity to visit Java, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Yogyakarta was one of the places that captured my heart. Yogyakarta, home to the iconic Borobudur and Prambanan Temples, is a kaleidoscope of colors and flavors. This city was fantastic, you will only wish to have more time exploring.

A private room for two travelers at a guesthouse can easily be found for $15, and supper in the city is only $4.

An average daily budget of $50 for two individuals should be plenty. Yogyakarta should be on your list of places to visit in Southeast Asia on a budget.

Planning ahead of your trip

Some Asian nations are more expensive than others, so plan your trip accordingly.

It's usually a good idea to do some internet research before visiting a new place. Keeping track of your cash is essential in such situations.  Booking flight tickets at the cheapest possible rates and living in guesthouses can help you save a good sum of money.
