Donald Trump, the Presidential candidate for the Republican Party, has said that he will not contest for the US presidency if he loses in the November 2024 presidential elections, in an interview released on Sunday.
When Sharyl Attkisson, host of the “Full Measure” program, asked if he could run again in 2028 if he fails in his third consecutive bid for the presidency, the 78-year-old one-time president said, “No I don’t. I think that will be – that will be it. I don’t see that at all.”
Recent developments in the US politics arena have tightened the race for the White House between Republican Trump and Democratic US Vice President Kamala Harris. Polls show the two closely tangled in significant battleground states with a high probability of deciding the eventual winner.
Trump flagged off his first reelection campaign for the 2020 election on the same day as his 2017 inauguration and declared his most recent White House bid in November 2022. Meanwhile, the third-time presidential aspirant blames his last loss in 2020 against Democratic President Joe Biden on large-scale rigging.
Many of his efforts to overturn election results during the 2020 elections have earned him federal and state criminal charges – all of which the former president has vigorously denied. Instead, Trump appears poised to keep branding indictments as political attacks against him and looks poised to maintain the same rhetoric if he were to lose in the upcoming elections.
An astute businessman, Trump has leveraged his business acumen in fueling his winning chances by launching several business ventures amid his most recent campaign. These include Trump-branded sneakers, cryptocurrencies, coins, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and Trump Media (DJT.O).
Democratic Vice President Harris, on the other hand, has identified the presidential race as a vital moment in US democracy as she chooses to concentrate on promoting the cause of housing costs and family living expenses.
When host Attkisson asked Donald Trump if he could regroup and identify those he could depend on as allies one term after he left the White House, he replied, "It would have been easier if I did it…contiguous." Trump went on to throw subtle shades as some former supposed allies all he taught were loyal to him.
He added, “But the benefit is more than anything else, it shows how bad they were”. Similarly, Trump told Attkisson that he has yet to promise anyone a position in his White House Cabinet should he triumph in November. For now, he’s more concerned about thumping Harris, who’s “gaining grounds” in nationwide pre-election polls.
Final Notes
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says he will not contest again in 2028 if he were to lose in the November 2024 US elections. While Trump may not be clear about who his true loyalists are, the former US president is putting all efforts – including his reputable business acumen – towards ensuring that his possibly last election bid turns out his way.
